Looking at past instances, the tech industry has seen the rise of cloud database services like Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service). Several third parties have emerged with the claims that they can easily automate several housekeeping tasks better than the cloud guys. These claims came right after the rise of managed cloud database services like Amazon RDS. Clumio, the data protection service, which was using AWS’ technologies to build cloud backup and recovery solutions, too has now taken a step forward.
It has moved into long-term data retention with a new solution that targets Amazon RDS customers. The new solution adds automation that constitutes a multi-step solution for backing and accessing data with long-term retention.
In the case of RDS, customers can only access 35 days of data. And if someone wants to keep point-in-time records to satisfy internal policies or public mandates for data retention, they would have to replicate data to another account. Now, the new solution of Clumio will convert snapshots into Parquet files that reside in Amazon S3 cloud storage.
The long-term backup solution for RDS comes around the same time as the time of the release of Clumio’s backup solution for Microsoft 365, which was announced a month back. Clumio’s enterprise backup as a service is designed in a way that it securely takes backup, protects, and restores email and critical data in SaaS and public environments as a single service. This backup solution lasts for multiple SaaS services.
The other advantage of Clumio’s solution is that it will help in transforming the cloud provider’s infrastructure for enhancing its backup tools. The original backup and restore solution for Amazon EBS was released last fall; the extension for RDS will become available from June 11, 2020.
